Panchkula, December 5 (Ishan Rai):On the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day, Wing Commander Sanjay Kumar Rai, District Sainik Welfare Officer, pinned the ceremonial flag on Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma at the DC Office in Sector-1. The Deputy Commissioner extended greetings and thanked the Armed Forces for their selfless service to the nation.

Deputy Commissioner Sharma said that Armed Forces Flag Day, observed nationwide, is dedicated to honoring the brave soldiers and martyrs who have safeguarded the nation’s borders with courage and sacrifice. He said that no tribute can truly match the supreme sacrifice made by those who laid down their lives for the country.
“Honoring Only Martyrs Is Not Enough” — Deputy Commissioner
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that respect should not be limited to martyrs alone but must also extend to the disabled soldiers, war widows, and children of fallen heroes, who still need continuous support from society and government.
He added that India has faced multiple wars, insurgencies, and cross-border threats, during which countless soldiers lost their lives or suffered permanent disabilities.
Support for Injured and Disabled Soldiers

He highlighted that many ex-servicemen suffer from severe illnesses such as cancer, cardiac diseases, and joint-related issues and often require expensive medical treatment. Such families rely on public support for rehabilitation and financial assistance.
Importance of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund
The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, which provides crucial welfare and rehabilitation support to:
- war widows
- disabled soldiers
- dependents of martyrs
- ex-servicemen facing financial hardship
He said the Flag Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility toward those who protected the nation at the cost of their lives and well-being.
Nationwide Awareness Activities
Wing Commander Rai informed that on this day:
- awareness campaigns are conducted across the country
- print and electronic media highlight the importance of the day
- military formations and units organize cultural events, carnivals, and public outreach programs
The Central Sainik Board also distributes token flags and car stickers in red, dark blue, and light blue colors representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
A Collective Duty of Every Citizen
Deputy Commissioner Sharma concluded by saying:
“Government measures alone are not enough. It is the combined responsibility of every citizen to support the families of our brave soldiers. Contributing to the Flag Day Fund is a small gesture of gratitude toward those who have sacrificed everything for the nation.”
