‘Buddhi Shuddhi Yagya’ Held Against Insult to Shankaracharya and Police Action on Batuks

Mau (Ishan Samvad). A “Buddhi Shuddhi Yagya” was organised in Kopaganj on January 27, 2026, at the Gaurishankar Temple to protest the alleged insult to Shankaracharya Ji and police excesses on Batuks during the Prayagraj Magh Mela. The event was held with the objective of praying for wisdom for the Uttar Pradesh government.

The programme was organised on the call of Gaurav Kumar Rai, former General Secretary of the District Congress Committee, Mau. Participants strongly condemned the alleged incident and expressed solidarity with the Sanatan tradition.

Addressing the gathering, Gaurav Kumar Rai said that the Yogi government, driven by arrogance of power, has insulted the highest spiritual authority of Sanatan Dharma, deeply hurting the sentiments of Hindus across the country. He termed the police action against Batuks as inhuman and reflective of an anti-religious mindset.

Senior Congress leader Umashankar Singh accused the BJP of using religion only for electoral gains and dividing society.
District Congress Vice President Ratnesh Rai alleged that the present government follows anti-religion and anti-Brahmin policies.
Senior leader Dharmendra Singh demanded a public apology from the Uttar Pradesh government to Shankaracharya Ji.

Several Congress leaders and workers including Virendra Kushwaha, Chhotelal, Youth Congress District President Absar Ahmad, Prakash Maurya, Roshan Vishwakarma, Jitendra Chauhan, Amit Chauhan were present.
