Panchkula, January 23 (Sanjay Rai) – Haryana’s Education Minister, Shri Mahipal Dhanda, said that the messiah of labourers, Chaudhary Chhotu Ram, was a great social reformer. He raised his voice for the interests of farmers and the poor during British rule when their rights were being crushed. He worked to give farmers respect and security by enacting strong laws against moneylenders and landlord exploitation. His life is proof that if the resolve is firm, the system can be changed.

Education Minister Dhanda was addressing a gathering at the Chaudhary Chhotu Ram Jat Bhawan on the occasion of Basant Panchmi and the 145th birth anniversary of Deenbandhu Chaudhary Chhotu Ram, organized by the Jat Sabha Chandigarh/Panchkula. On this occasion, talented youth and children in the field of sports and studies were also honoured.

In his address, he said that Chaudhary Chhotu Ram believed that education is the greatest force for social change. He always emphasized viewing education in connection with life. Today, as Education Minister, I can proudly say that the Haryana government is carrying forward those same values and doing historic work in the field of education.

He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, the new National Education Policy is being effectively implemented in the state. The picture of government schools is being transformed. Modern classrooms, digital facilities, smart boards, STEM labs and quality teacher training are being given special attention. Our aim is not just to give degrees, but to provide education imbued with values, employment-oriented and based on ethics.

Today’s youth will only progress if they stay connected to their roots. The life of Chaudhary Chhotu Ram teaches us that true progress is achieved by taking along the person standing in the last row of society. The state government is also making farmer, youth and student-centric policies with the same thought.

Former Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh, paying homage to Chaudhary Chhotu Ram, said that ceremonies organized on the occasion of Basant Panchmi and Chaudhary Chhotu Ram’s birth anniversary connect the new generation with their history and provide the right direction.

Jat Sabha President Dr. M.S. Malik paid tribute to Chaudhary Chhotu Ram and recalled the work done by him in the interest of farmers and labourers. He praised the government’s decision to place Chaudhary Chhotu Ram’s statue from the Bhakra Dam in a museum and honoured the efforts made for this by presenting a posthumous letter of appreciation to former Union Minister late Shri Ratan Lal Kataria and a letter of appreciation on the spot to former Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh.

Former MP Shri DP Vats, describing Chaudhary Chhotu Ram as a true well-wisher of farmers, said that the honouring of talented young men and women who have brought glory to society in the field of sports and education by Jat Sabha on his birth anniversary is an inspiring work.

Jammu and Kashmir MLA Shri Vikram Singh Randhawa told the youth that they should not just remember Chaudhary Chhotu Ram’s ideas, but incorporate them into their lives. It is by moving forward with these values of education, equality, social justice and farmer welfare that we can build a strong, prosperous and self-reliant Haryana.

Dr. Babita Sangwan, Director of Signature Smiles Implants and Dental Clinic, Sector-56, Gurugram and a renowned dental surgeon, was honoured with the ‘Award of Honour 2026’. Personalities who have made notable contributions in the social, cultural and medical fields were honoured at the programme.

On this occasion, Jammu MLA Shri Baldev Raj Sharma, former minister Yog Anand Shastri, Prof. M.M. Juneja, BJP state vice-president Banto Kataria and other dignitaries also addressed the gathering.

The programme was attended by many eminent persons including Sarabjit Singh Johal, Veena Arora, Hemraj Yadav, Jat Sabha General Secretary R.K. Malik, Vice-President Jaipal Punia, Secretary B.S. Gill.
