Haryana Government’s decision to link the ‘Lado Lakshmi Scheme’ with children’s marks is grossly anti-women – Sudha Bhardwaj

Not marks, but rights: Congress will become the voice of women’s rights – Sudha Bhardwaj

Chandigarh / Panchkula (Ishan samvad) Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Sudha Bhardwaj strongly reacted to the changes made by the government in the Lado Lakshmi Scheme.
She said that the decision of the Haryana government to link the Lado Lakshmi Scheme with children’s academic marks is extremely anti-women, discriminatory, and insensitive. Making a mother’s dignity or assistance conditional on her child’s Class 10th–12th results clearly shows that the BJP government views women not through the lens of rights, but as recipients of charity and rewards.

State Congress President Sudha Bhardwaj said,
“Determining a mother’s respect based on her child’s marks is not only insulting, but also against the fundamental principles of social justice. Will mothers from poor, hardworking, and resorce-deprived families now be denied their rights simply because their children did not get access to better educational opportunities?”
She said that this policy will create a new form of class discrimination among women and will subject mothers from economically and socially weaker sections to double punishment—first due to the failure of the system, and then because of the government’s imposed conditions.
Sudha Bhardwaj raised serious questions, asking:
Is a mother’s contribution limited only to examination results?
Does the government want to shift the burden of its failed education system onto mothers?
She demanded that the Lado Lakshmi Scheme be implemented equally for all eligible women without any academic conditions. Otherwise, the Congress party will launch a strong movement against this anti-women decision, from the streets to the legislature.
She made it clear that the Congress will fight not for marks, but for women’s rights.
