Studying international relations is more relevant today than ever: Governor

Gurugram, 4 November: Haryana Governor Prof. Aseem Kumar Ghosh inaugurated the second edition of the book “International Relations – For Civil Services and State Service Examinations” at Southampton University in Gurugram on Tuesday. The event was graced by Damu Ravi, former Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, as a special guest. The book has been authored by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Sports University Haryana, and Dr. Rajesh Mohan, DCP Traffic, Gurugram.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Prof. Ghosh emphasized that studying international relations has become increasingly significant in the 21st century. While geographical borders separate nations, the world today is deeply interconnected through the economy, technology, communication, and environmental issues. Global challenges such as climate change, trade, energy security, and public health can no longer be seen in isolation.

Governor Ghosh described the book not merely as an academic guide but as a valuable resource for life, leadership, and broad-based thinking. He highlighted that it will inspire young readers to cultivate critical thinking, discernment, and a sense of service to the nation. According to him, the book incorporates the insights of experienced administrators and diplomats who have dedicated years to public service and now aim to guide the next generation through their knowledge.

Special guest Damu Ravi praised the latest edition as highly timely and practical, incorporating recent global developments and the evolving dimensions of India’s foreign policy. He said the book would benefit not only civil service aspirants but also policymakers, researchers, and the general public.

Prof. Ashok Kumar, one of the co-authors, explained that the book provides an in-depth understanding of India’s foreign policy, Indo-Pacific strategy, Quad cooperation, humanitarian leadership during the COVID-19 crisis, and India’s growing influence on multilateral platforms such as G20 and BRICS. Dr. Rajesh Mohan highlighted that international relations today extend beyond formal diplomacy and are shaped by rapid developments in the digital era, where even a single social media post can impact global equations.

Mitra Ghosh, Director General of Haryana Institute of Public Administration Manoj Yadav, Academic Provost of Southampton University Prof. Elias Phillips, Vice-Chancellor of Gurugram University Dr. Sanjay Kaushik, Product Director at McGraw Hill Education Tanveer Ahmad, SDM Badshahpur Sanjeev Singla, senior officials, academicians, students, and other dignitaries.
